Weaving Workshop with Sara Hotchkiss - Itinerary Day 1:Between 4pm and 6pm would be the perfect time for you to arrive and check in. Afterwards, feel free to hang out in the garden and enjoy the breeze from the river or take a stroll to the village, just five minutes away. The Narrows Tavern, which features live music most nights during the summer, is a fun place to have a beer and get to know the locals and not a bad dinner spot either.
Day 3: The morning routine is the same, 8am breakfast, 9am at the loom. This time you will make a 18" x 24" tapestry sampler that can be used for a wall hanging, pillow cover, or table runner. Sara will teach you basic tapestry stitches and, after lunch, she'll show you how to finish the piece. For today's exploration we suggest you wend your way through the fishing villages of Friendship and Cushing to nearby Rockland, home to the Farnsworth Museum and its famed Wyeth and Louise Nevelson collections, plus shops and galleries and restaurants galore. Sara recommends a visit to the Caldbeck Gallery and to Archipelago, the famed Island Institute's arts and crafts store. For a real dinner treat, we suggest you take the short drive to South Rockland to eat at Primo’s. It’s not inexpensive and during the season you might need a reservation, but the food’s sublime and the desserts out of this world. Day 4: Breakfast is served between 8 and 9am. After breakfast take a last stroll through the garden and say good-bye. Check-out is by 11am, but don’t be sad: you will take home plenty of memories and the beautiful pieces you wove at Old Point Comfort. |
